Director Ace Norton rips off Director Michel Gondry
Scope out this blatent rip off Dir Ace Norton tries to pull off in his Norah Jones music video “Thinking of You” by shoddy attemps at executing everything Director Michel Gondry is known for. To start off with the entire premise is super similar to Gondry’s Bjork video “Bachelorette” where a soul female tells her story to a attentive audience which also is being watched by another audience etc….

Then the overall style is staggeringly similar to Gondry’s work. The dream-like sequences all feature two-dimensional backdrops and and the train scenes are identical in style.

But Ace doesn’t just stop at Gondry’s Bjork video, he steals from his Radiohead video “Knives Out” as well. Using the concept of open windows into ones insides, vibrant playful organs/hearts. Plus the cinamotography flows with one shot zooming in to transition into another shot by focusing in a detail which then is actually the next shot etc. A concpet pioneered by Gondry in his french rap video Je Danse le Mia” by IAM. And finally Ace manages to sneek in a copy of Gondy’s trademark clay-mation to represent thoughts and a dream-like reality. As seen in coutless Gondry videos and films such as “The Science of Sleep”.

The sad thing is Ace’s Norah Jones video is probably getting eaten up by the general public as a totally orginal alternative style to the cliches in music videos today.
