Noise du Jour’s Villains: “Gaston” from Beauty and the Beast
My lifelong carnal obsession with over-the-top villains began at the tender age of four, when I was shown Ridley Scot’s magnificent failure, Legend. While I was ostensibly watching it for the unicorns, it was Tim Curry’s portrayal of “Darkness”, a satanesque, cloven-hoofed demon, that really fired my imagination. And so in my tiny, twisted brain (which has only become more shrunken and wrung over time), this type of aquilline, bass-voiced man became an object of lust and awe.
Luckily, Disney shares my obsession with this particular segment of the population, and gives their villains ample room to shine, or loom, or whatever it is that these majestic men do.
